open excess is one of the two mixed-abled band projects that Un-Label has produced in the past two years. In 2021 the three jazz musicians Lucca Keller (p), Torben Schug (b) and Till Menzer (dr) came together to form the trio open excess on the occasion of the RoboLAB festival in Odonien, Cologne. They play original compositions in the tradition of Miles Davis, Wayne Shorter, Roy Hargrove. The combo’s hallmark is an overflowing enthusiasm for playing that is coupled with a great deal of wit. At the end of the two-year artistic work and development phase, the trio has invited renowned guests Peter Ehwald, Berlin (sax), Elisabeth Coudoux, Cologne (clo), Anna Reizbikh, Bochum (voc) and Max Schweder, Cologne (sax), to burn off fireworks of musical virtuosity as part of the Young Talents series of the King Georg Jazzclub, Cologne, on November 22, 2023. The focus of this evening is on good jazz that tickles the nerves, but along the way the stage will be taken by musicians:inside with disabilities through their talent and skill to a departure point for more diversity in the music field. This innovative project was supported by the Initiative Musik and the Diversity Fund of the Ministry of Science and Culture NRW.
