How can culture become truly accessible for Deaf people? This question is at the heart of the latest episode of Sehen statt Hören (“Seeing Instead of Hearing”), the only television programme in Germany produced entirely in German Sign Language (DGS).
The feature highlights our Access Maker experts, Rafael-Evitan and Lars Grombelka. As part of our one-year Access Maker qualification programme, they work alongside us to support and advise cultural institutions on their journey towards greater accessibility for Deaf audiences.

Producing the feature involved close collaboration over several filming days, during which our team and the Badisches Staatstheater were followed to document both the advisory process and its practical implementation.
We are delighted with the final result and with the visibility the programme brings to both our Access Maker qualification programme and the broader goal of inclusive culture. The feature makes it clear that genuine accessibility is not achieved through isolated measures, but through sustained collaboration with experts who bring lived experience of disability and a shared commitment to opening cultural spaces to everyone.
The third and, for the time being, final round of the Access Maker qualification programme has just begun, with our Deaf coaches Lars and Rafael once again joining the programme.
