“corporāle” (lat.) means “what is related to bodies, proper to bodies”. “Corporale” is the third act of the Aristide Rontini’s performance “Fragments of Infinity” inspired by fireflies mentioned in “L’articolo delle lucciole” (The Article of Fireflies) from the collection “Scritti Corsari” (Corsair Writings) by Pier Paolo Pasolini.

During the masterclass Aristide Rontini shares findings and practices that shaped the creative process of the piece. The organic and bioluminescent body of the firefly is a metaphor for human ability to connect with bodily sensations, needs and desires rather than uncritically following predetermined models and codes. During the masterclass, each participant can explore bodily perception and shape the movements individually.

The language of fireflies consists of vibrations and resonances forming a natural network system where everyone transmits and receives without a central leader. With their intermittent flashes, they constantly shift between states of activity and receptivity. In this network system each one is connected to others and can choose to share vibrations, follow resonances, get in touch with someone or not, interact or not, stay or disconnect. Just according to the needs and desires of the moment.

The practices focus on breathing, listening, proximity, touch, posture, positioning, and applying simple movement principles such as following and offering and connectivity. These exercises act as tools for accessing one’s personal archive of postures, relational dynamics and movements, examining what fosters or hinders the formation of a community where bodies are no longer hierarchized. This process facilitates the creation of a choreographic score that support a more equitable, sustainable, accessible and vibrant community.

How can we build a sense of community while keeping differences alive? During the masterclass, the group will develop a shared language. If the group agrees, the fireflies will explore public space. What happens when this practice is explored in public space? What can we do to make it survive and resist the public space practices?

The masterclass will be held in English, with peer-to-peer interpretation into German spoken language available upon request.

It is open to professional and semi-professional artists with and without disabilities from various fields of the performing arts, including dancers, choreographers, performers, actors, musicians, directors, dramaturgs, as well as cultural professionals and other interested individuals.
