Title of the Masterclass: “Aesthetics of Access through Digital Art”

Digital art for the stage offers the possibility of being both: a new aesthetic experience and barrier-free access for artists and audiences with different perspectives on disability. In this masterclass, Max Schweder will present proven tools of digital approaches and possibilities to realize “Aesthetics of Access” in a wide variety of stage and installation contexts. Movements are transformed into sounds, sounds into images, and smartphone inputs into interactive democratic decisions. Over two days, a playful and practice-oriented overview will be created, generating impulses for the aesthetic possibilities of the artistic coupling of digitality and access.
This masterclass is aimed at artists, dramaturges, directors, stage designers, theater and stage technicians, digitalists, and is open to all interested parties.
Max Schweder is a musician, performer, and digitalist. He works as a Creative Coder at the Digital Co-Production Laboratory Dortmund. He studied jazz saxophone and music production at ArtEZ Conservatorium in Arnhem and the Cologne University of Music and Dance, and is a fellowship alumnus of the Academy for Theatre and Digitality Dortmund, the Academy of Media Arts Cologne, and the Royal Conservatoire Antwerp (BEL). He is a founding member of Un-Label and has been exploring the intersections of digitality, stage, and access for 10 years. With his electro-duo Cylvester, he performs concerts all over Germany and implements projects such as the Mobile Laboratory for Urban Digital Art ALL YOUR BASE. As a media artist, he works with, among others, Plex Noire, Maria Basel, Bobby Rausch, and Kay Voges.
