Wolf – Co-production with D’Haus

Summer camp. It’s all about nettles, thorns, mosquitoes, and the worst part: almost everyone from Kemi’s class is also signed up. The nice ones, the athletes, the horse girls, the gamers. And Jörg, who always stands on the sidelines.

Jörg and Kemi end up in a room together since they were left over in the room assignment. This is how democracy works, Kemi thinks. The daily trips excite everyone. Only Kemi observes how Marko and his followers bully Jörg, making him even more of an outsider, or as it is described in the book, “different.” A solution could be to tell the counselors about it. Quite specifically, the issue could just be forgotten. And the solution would be to stand by Jörg. But Kemi is just relieved that someone else is being targeted, so she stays silent. Because being bullied, Kemi knows that well: When Kemi’s father was gone, and mother and Kemi had to save on everything, there were stupid comments. A decision needs to be made. Then, a wolf appears, sitting by Kemi’s bed at night with glowing eyes.

“Wolf” was awarded the 2024 German Youth Literature Prize and is listed on the international recommendation list “The White Ravens 2024” as one of the 200 remarkable new releases in children’s and youth literature from 50 countries. Director Carmen Schwarz tells the novel as a story of friendship and civil courage. For this, she combines acting with puppetry. With an artistic audio description, the production invites both sighted, visually impaired, and blind people to experience the performance equally. Inclusion consultants from Un-Label have accompanied the production from the very beginning of the conceptualization process through the entire rehearsal phase, using the “Aesthetics of Access” approach. The result is a play in which the artistic audio description is not only embedded in the text but is also continuously thought through and realized in the characters’ actions, the composition of sounds, the set design, costumes, and lighting.

One hour before the performance begins, visually impaired and blind people can explore the stage and touch costumes.
