About the masterclass<\/h2>\n

<\/p>\n

The Knowing Body<\/em> is an intensive two-day masterclass focusing on improvisation, body awareness, and the relationship to space. It invites participants to engage with the unknown, question physical and mental boundaries, and explore new forms of expression. The body as a state of possibility.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

How can we rethink the body? How can movement be explored beyond fixed structures?<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

A central theme of the masterclass is the perception and reinterpretation of one’s own body and its limits from within. This process involves and critically examines internal and external influences that define and limit the body as a narrative and a manifestation. Diana Niepce explores the concepts of improvisation\u2014how space is perceived and used, what elements shape a movement or action, and how a deep perspective penetrates the idea of the hybrid body, which ultimately finds its presence on stage through irony and sarcasm.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In addition to physical practice, the masterclass provides space for critical discussions on art as a political and social tool. It encourages participants to reflect on their artistic practice in the context of relevance, communication, origin, and transformation. This makes it a valuable experience for dancers and artists working at the intersection of art and society.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

In her previous works, Portuguese dancer, choreographer, and acrobat Diana Niepce explored her recovery process following a trapeze accident that resulted in a spinal cord injury. As a performer, she has since been searching for new forms of expression that challenge the audience to rethink aesthetic body norms.<\/p>\n

<\/p>\n

The masterclass will be held in English, with peer-to-peer interpretation into German spoken language available upon request.<\/p>\n

It is open to professional and semi-professional artists with and without disabilities from various fields of the performing arts, including dancers, choreographers, performers, actors, musicians, directors, dramaturgs, as well as cultural professionals and other interested individuals.<\/p>\n

\u200bDiana <\/span>Niepce<\/span> is<\/span> a <\/span>dancer<\/span>, <\/span>choreographer<\/span> and<\/span> writer<\/span>. <\/span>She<\/span> graduated<\/span> from<\/span> the<\/span> Escola Superior de Dan\u00e7a, <\/span>did<\/span> an<\/span> Erasmus <\/span>at<\/span> Teatterikorkeakoulun<\/span> (in Helsinki), <\/span>and<\/span> a Masters in <\/span>Art<\/span> and<\/span> Communication<\/span> at<\/span> the<\/span> Universidade Nova de Lisboa. <\/span>She<\/span> is<\/span> an<\/span> associate<\/span> artist<\/span> at<\/span> Espa\u00e7o do Tempo <\/span>and<\/span> the<\/span> creator<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> pieces<\/span> “<\/span>Forgotten<\/span> Fog” (2015), “<\/span>Raw<\/span> a <\/span>nude<\/span>” (2019), “12 979 Dias” (2019), “Dueto” (2020), “T4” (2020), “Anda, Diana” (SPA <\/span>Prize<\/span>, 2021), “O outro lado da dan\u00e7a” (2022), “<\/span>Enfreakment<\/span>” (2024), “Utopia” (2024) <\/span>and<\/span> \u201c<\/span><\/span>Norma\u201d<\/span><\/span> (2023). <\/span>Curator<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> Political<\/span> Bodies <\/span>Cycle<\/span> of<\/span> conferences<\/span> and<\/span> performances (2024, Culturgest). As a <\/span>dancer<\/span> and<\/span> performer, <\/span>she<\/span> has<\/span> collaborated<\/span> with<\/span> national<\/span> and<\/span> international<\/span> artists<\/span>. <\/span>She<\/span> is<\/span> the<\/span> curator<\/span> and<\/span> trainer<\/span> of<\/span> the<\/span> Introduction<\/span> to <\/span>the<\/span> Performing<\/span> Arts<\/span> for <\/span>Artists<\/span> with<\/span> Disabilities<\/span> (2020), Fora da Norma (2023, Biblioteca de Marvila) <\/span>and<\/span> <\/span>Norma<\/span><\/span> (2023, TNDMII). <\/span>Her<\/span> most<\/span> recent<\/span> publications<\/span> are <\/span>the<\/span> article<\/span> “<\/span>Experimenting<\/span> with<\/span> the<\/span> body” in <\/span>the<\/span> newspaper<\/span> Coreia, <\/span>the<\/span> book<\/span> “Anda, Diana” (ed.
